Job Title: Utility Foreman – Civil Construction
Location: Primarily South Carolina (Current focus: Columbia; subject to change per project)

Contract Type: Permanent, Direct Hire
Schedule: Full-Time (7am - 5pm)
About the Role
Are you an experienced leader with a passion for field operations and utility construction? We are seeking a Utility Foreman to oversee the daily site activities of utility installation projects. This role involves coordinating field personnel, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, maintaining high production standards, and managing site logistics efficiently. You’ll be working with GPS-guided equipment, managing resources, and leading your team through all phases of utility infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
Direct and supervise crews on utility installation projects including storm drainage, water, and sewer lines.
Set up and operate GPS base stations and GPS-guided construction equipment.
Conduct daily safety meetings, workplace inspections, and complete related documentation.
Interpret construction plans and perform layout and site surveying.
Oversee jobsite preparation, erosion control, equipment storage, and weather-readiness.
Ensure accurate daily logging of fuel, load counts, hours worked, and maintenance reports.
Lead toolbox talks and uphold strict adherence to OSHA/MSHA standards.
Perform minor emergency repairs and ensure the upkeep of heavy equipment.
Maintain tool and material inventory and communicate logistical needs to management.
Represent the company with professionalism and ensure the site environment remains safe and efficient.
Qualifications
Strong background in utility installation: storm drains, water, sewer systems (gravity/force main), manholes, and lift stations.
Proficient in reading engineered drawings, layout, and site surveying.
Experienced in operating dozers, excavators, loaders, compactors, and similar heavy equipment.
Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and team leadership skills.
Effective communicator with strong time management and stress management abilities.
Valid driver's license with a clean record (no more than 3 moving violations in 3 years).
Ability to pass drug and alcohol screenings.
Able to lift up to 40 lbs and work in varying weather conditions.
Working Conditions
Outdoor field-based role exposed to varying environmental conditions.
Physically demanding work including lifting, bending, and managing equipment.
Exposure to potentially hazardous materials—must follow safety protocols rigorously.
Mental demands include schedule adherence and stress management under project constraints.
