This program is entirely remote, meaning you can work from anywhere in the United States with a nonprofit based anywhere in the United States. We cannot accept international students into this program. The Building Capacity, Careers, & Community Internship Initiative, part of The VirtualIntern Platform, offers a paid remote internship where college students partner with a nonprofit, co-design a meaningful project, and make an impact. This provides a unique opportunity to take ownership of a project, build professional skills, and gain mentorship while addressing real-world challenges. Learn more... This paid internship requires a full-time, 8-week commitment , starting on June 9th, 2025, and ending on August 1st. Stipends range from $650 to $900 per week, depending on academic level. How It Works: Students are partnered with nonprofits to co-design their own 8-week projects, focusing on issues through green projects in areas such as Green Infrastructure and Community Development, Workforce Development, Sustainable Agriculture, Public Health, and Urban Forestry. Design a Project focusing on one of these key areas: Sustainability & Environmental Justice Community Engagement Project Management Marketing & Fundraising Data Analysis & Technology And More! Find a Nonprofit & Secure a Verbal Agreement: Reach out to nonprofits aligned with your project, discuss your proposal, and obtain verbal confirmation that they will host you. The estimated value of this collaboration is $10,000, but with grants from MobilizeGreen, nonprofits only pay $1,000 to participate. Additional grants may be available. Submit Your Application: Include nonprofit details, your project proposal, and two references (one academic from your current or most recent university/college). Placement & Approval: After review, references and nonprofit supervisors will be contacted. Following their feedback, your application will be evaluated, and you will be informed of next steps. Responsibilities: Collaborate & Execute Work: 36 hours/week on project tasks with your nonprofit, applying leadership and problem-solving skills. Engage in Professional Development: Dedicate 4 hours/week to mentorship, workshops, and cohort learning. Track & Report Progress: Provide updates on milestones and project impact. Requirements: Must be a U.S. or Permanent Resident student (international students are not eligible). Must be a rising junior, senior, or graduate student at an accredited institution. Must have a co-designed nonprofit project. Interest in nonprofit work, leadership, social impact, or community engagement. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Organized, proactive, and comfortable working remotely and independently. Ability to manage tasks, deadlines, and collaborate with teams. Passionate about community impact and sustainability.
