Job Description
Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Were looking for a certified and experienced Remote American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to support Deaf and hard of hearing students in Oregons K12 public and charter schools. This fully remote position plays a key role in ensuring equal access to learning, communication, and participation in virtual classroom environments.
What Youll Do:Provide real-time ASL interpretation for live virtual classes, meetings, and school activities.
Work closely with teachers, case managers, and support staff to prepare for lessons and adapt interpreting to the students communication needs.
Support student engagement, understanding, and access across all school-related settings.
Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and cultural sensitivity while following the RID Code of Professional Conduct.
Use video conferencing platforms to deliver consistent, high-quality interpretation services.
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelors degree in interpreting, Deaf studies, or a related field preferred.
Valid RID certification (NIC, CI/CT, or equivalent) required.
Oregon school interpreter qualifications preferred (e.g., listed in the Oregon Department of Educations Educational Interpreter Registry or ability to meet state standards).
Solid experience interpreting in K12 settings, ideally in a virtual environment.
Fluency in both American Sign Language and English.
Reliable, high-speed internet and a professional, distraction-free home workspace.
Experience with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and special education processes.
Familiarity with Oregons education system or state-specific accessibility guidelines.
Knowledge of video interpreting best practices and educational platforms like Zoom, Meet, or Teams.
