ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Evaluates need for and ordering laboratory and diagnostic tests. Reviews and accurately records laboratory results in prenatal record. Reviews and interprets laboratory results with client. Refers abnormal results to case manager for follow-up. Assesses need for referral to other healthcare providers. Educates patients and their families and encourages participation in healthcare related decisions. Participates in constant labor and delivery coverage for caseload. Exercises discretion and judgment when evaluating and determining disposition of clients in triage area appropriately. Collaborates, consults, and refers with physicians in accordance with practice guidelines and nurse-midwifery regulations. Acts as stand-by for unattended private deliveries when physician is unavailable. Acts as Cesarean section first assist for clients and private physicians as needed. Completes post-partum rounds and discharges in a timely fashion. Completes billing slip at time of discharge. Participates in multi-disciplinary conference. Attends at least 50% of Obstetrics Department meetings annually. Maintains contact with professional organizations. Participates in performance improvement activities. Participates in continuing education activities and obtains CEUs necessary to maintain state licensure and prescriptive authority. Supervises Nurse-Mid-wifery students and family practice residents during their clinical rotation at CH. Adapts to changing demands of workplace and assumes a leadership role in supporting co-workers adaptation to change. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Graduate of an accredited midwifery program with Certificate of nurse-midwifery. Nurse Midwife - NJ. AHA BLS. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Frequent physical demands include: Standing, Walking, Push/Pull, Twisting, Bending, Reaching forward, Wrist position deviation. Occasional physical demands include: Sitting, Climbing (e.g., stairs or ladders), Carry objects, Reaching overhead, Squat/kneel/crawl, Pinching/fine motor activities, Keyboard use/repetitive motion, Taste or Smell. Continuous physical demands include: Talk or Hear. Lifting Floor to Waist 15 lbs. Lifting Waist Level and Above 10 lbs. Sensory Requirements include: Accurate Near Vision, Accurate Far Vision, Color Discrimination, Minimal Depth Perception, Accurate Hearing.
